Why this site exists

Pay in the UK is still difficult to talk about openly. Job adverts hide salary bands behind “competitive”, official statistics arrive months late and at a level of aggregation that rarely matches your actual job title, and asking a colleague what they earn remains socially awkward. The result is that people accept offers, negotiate raises and change careers without knowing whether the number in front of them is fair.

WhatDoIEarn.co.uk exists to close a small part of that gap. Anyone can share what they earn anonymously, in under a minute, without creating an account. In return, everyone can see what other people in the same role and region reported. There is no paywall, no signup requirement and no attempt to sell your data.

Who runs it

WhatDoIEarn.co.uk is owned and operated by AXSystem Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales under Company Number 17085060. AXSystem Ltd also builds and operates fleet and operations software at axsystem.co.uk.

What we publish

• Salary reports for individual job titles, nationally and by UK region, generated from anonymous submissions.
• Free calculators covering take-home pay after income tax, National Insurance and pension, plus cost-of-living comparisons between UK cities.
• Editorial guides on pay by career stage, regional pay differences and salary negotiation, written against our methodology and referenced to primary sources such as the ONS.

How we handle the data honestly

Our figures come from people volunteering what they earn. That makes them current and specific in a way official statistics often are not — but it also makes them self-reported, unweighted and unrepresentative of the whole UK workforce. We would rather say so plainly than imply a precision we do not have.

In practice this means we publish the sample size next to every figure, we exclude reports built on very small samples from search indexing, and we state the limitations directly on the page rather than burying them. Our figures are not official government statistics and are not financial, legal or employment advice. The full detail is in our methodology.

How the site is funded

WhatDoIEarn.co.uk is free to use and free to contribute to. Running costs are covered by display advertising on a subset of pages, and by AXSystem Ltd. Advertising never influences the salary figures we publish, which are calculated directly from the submission database. We do not accept payment to feature an employer, a recruiter or a job role.

Your privacy

Salary submissions are anonymous. We do not ask for your name, your employer or your email address in order to contribute. Every contributor receives a deletion code that lets them remove their own submission at any time without contacting us — see Delete My Data. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
